The ShinyHunters threat group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack involving Exact Sciences Corporation, alleging it exfiltrated data and warning the company to make contact by July 21, 2026.
In its post, the group claims it has extended the deadline and warns that Exact Sciences “wouldn’t want us to describe what was exfiltrated” publicly. ShinyHunters further threatens additional “digital” consequences if the company does not respond before the deadline.
Abbott confirms unauthorized access
The claim comes one day after Abbott published a statement confirming it is investigating a cyber incident involving unauthorized access to a limited number of internal systems within its Cancer Diagnostics business.
According to the company, the incident does not affect manufacturing, laboratory operations, product availability, or any other Abbott business units. Abbott also stated that the legacy Exact Sciences systems are separate from Abbott’s environment.
Abbott said it immediately took steps to contain the incident, engaged third-party cybersecurity experts and law enforcement, and is continuing to investigate what information was accessed. The company added that it does not expect the incident to have a material impact on its business or financial results.
The full company statement is available on Abbott’s website: Abbott Statement on Cyber Incident in Cancer Diagnostics Business.
Attribution remains unconfirmed
While Abbott confirmed unauthorized access to internal systems, it did not attribute the incident to ShinyHunters or confirm that data was exfiltrated. Likewise, the threat group’s claims have not been independently verified.
BreachNews previously reported on separate allegations involving Abbott’s LabCentral portal made by the ShadowByt3$ threat group. At the time of publication, there is no public evidence confirming whether that claim is related to Abbott’s confirmed cyber incident or the allegations made by ShinyHunters.
